The CMAT platform is designed specifically for precision assembly and testing of digital camera modules and sensors. Compared to other manufacturers AEi's uses a dynamic 5 degree of freedom active alignment for best camera sensor to lens fit. This provides significant improvements in performance for the camera modules produced as end-customer expectations of image quality continue to increase. Further, the minimum technical requirements of some camera and sensor applications simply cannot be met without 5 degree of freedom alignment. CMAT also provides substantial increases in manufacturing yield.

AEi has developed an extensive set of alignment and test algorithms for the CMAT platform that are easily configured as needed for specific products and applications using the FlexAuto control software. Both MTF and multiple gradient focus algorithms are utilized for fast and efficient setting of optimal focus alignment during the assembly process. CMAT also includes adaptable interface electronics to support communication and control of camera sensors from a variety of manufacturers.

Products

  • The CMAT I station is a sensor alignment, assembly and test system for product and process development with low to medium volume production. It is roughly 5-10 times faster than manual align, attach, and test with significantly higher yields and product performance.
  • The CMAT II system is a sensor alignment, assembly and test manufacturing line for higher volume production plus additional operations such as fully automated material handling, automated adhesive dispense alignment and validation using machine vision, secondary UV cure for faster throughput, full electrical test and image test, and laser marking. It is roughly 2-3 times faster than CMAT I stations and achieves even higher yields.
