LDS Large Diameter Splicing system
Some requirements for fiber splicing and related applications cannot be met by even the sophisticated conventional fusion splicers.
The 3SAE Technologies Large Diameter Splicing system provides capabilities that meet even the most demanding requirements. Powerful, high contrast optics, precision mechanical design, and extremely sophisticated image processing software allow for unmatched accuracy in aligning not only the position but also the relative pitch, yaw, and (optionally) rotation of each fiber for truly perfect alignment. A special ultra-high-power version of the 3SAE Technologies Ring of Fire handles splicing of fiber diameters from 125um to 2mm and more. Even prisms, lenses, and other optical devices can be aligned and spliced to fibers with unmatched splice quality.
Optional PM capability allows rotational alignment of all types of PM and shaped fibers. The tapering option enables fibers to be tapered in a wide variety of shapes, with image-based analysis of taper geometry for superb repeatability. Axial travel of the positioning stages totals over 150mm, so very long tapered sections are posssible.
An in-situ cleaver is also optionally available, to provide cleaving capability directly adjacent to the splice point.
- Unmatched control of fiber alignment, both positional and angular
- High-magnification telecentric optics and high-resolution cameras for alignment and inspection of fibers, with superb contrast and visibility
- Sophisticated PC-based control software controls the automatic steps of the process and provides DSP-based imaging tools to guide precise manual alignment
- Powerful, positionable Ring of Fire heat source provides even heating for splicing, flame polishing, and other operations. Special alloy electrodes minimize maintenance requirements and enable high thermal power with negligible tungsten deposits compared to competing processes
- The standard positioning stages, in conjunction with custom fixturing, allow precise alignment and fusion of lenses, prisms, and endcaps to fibers.
- Options include PM alignment, tapering, in-situ cleaving, and piezo-based ultrafine axial stage
